The UEFA Executive Committee has decided to allow nations to play three games instead of two during the March and September 2021 international breaks.

The decision comes following an agreement with the European Club Association and the European leagues, to recover the dates lost due to the cancellation of the March 2020 international break and the postponement of the 2020 European Championships.

From March 21 to 29, 2021, the playoffs for Euro 2021 will take place. The two semi-finals of the Nations League will be played on October 6 and 7, 2021, while the final and the third place playoff will take place on October 10.

Five substitutions

The UEFA Executive Committee also decided to allow up to five substitutions to be made in all matches of the Champions League, Europa League, Nations League and EURO 2021 playoffs, in qualifying for the UEFA European Women’s Championship.

Consequently, the number of players allowed in each matchday squad will be increased to 23.

The possibility of incorporating VAR into the next edition of the Nations League has also been discussed.
