Ten Stars Who Will Dominate The Summer Transfer Window

Spread the love

With the football season now over clubs are turning towards their directors of football and scouts as the time has arrived to sign players before the new season begins and this summer there are ten specific stars who will dominate the window’s headlines from start to finish.

Kylian Mbappe:

2016/17 was the breakout year for French sensation Mbappe with the forward catching the eye with his goalscoring displays in the Champions League. He is arguably the most sought after player this summer with three clubs having already been linked with moves for him that eclipse the 100 million Euro mark. 26 goals in all competitions was an exceptional return for an individual enjoying his first season of regular first-team action and it is becoming increasingly clear that the 18-year-old prefers a move to Real Madrid.

Possible Destinations: Real Madrid, Manchester City

Cost: 100-140 million euros

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang:

Aubameyang has been a regular feature in newspapers throughout the last three transfer windows and after seeing a number of his most gifted teammates leave Borussia Dortmund last summer he now looks set to finally follow suit. Real Madrid and Arsenal have been watching his situation from a distance but it is in fact Paris Saint-Germain who appear to have made the biggest effort to try and sign him this summer as a potential partner for Edinson Cavani. At 27 years old the Gabon international is entering his prime and with Dortmund about to begin a new adventure with Peter Bosz it may be the right time to leave.

Possible Destinations: Paris Saint-Germain

Cost: 60-90 million euros

Alexis Sanchez:

Arsenal endured a mixed 2016/17 campaign with the first half of it impressive and the second an absolute disaster as the club lurched from catastrophe to catastrophe both on and off the pitch. With Arsene Wenger’s future now clear after he signed a two-year contract extension there is a renewed focus on a potential deal taking Sanchez away from the Emirates Stadium this summer. The 28-year-old has been far and away the Gunners’ best performer this term with the gap in quality between himself and his teammates painfully clear. After another year where the club has failed to battle for major honours the Chilean is set on leaving and Bayern Munich intend to make a serious push for him as their marquee signing using his good friend Arturo Vidal as a rather public go-between.

Possible Destinations: Bayern Munich

Cost: 50-80 million euros

Marco Verratti:

Verratti is another name which comes into focus every single summer. His time in Paris has been a success from the perspective of his own personal development but there comes a time when a player of the Italian’s quality deserves to be challenging for the Champions League title on a regular basis. Paris Saint-Germain considers him an unsellable asset but the midfielder is believed to be willing to push through a move with Barcelona desperate to inject quality into their midfield.

Possible Destinations: Barcelona

Cost: 60-80 million euros

Alvaro Morata:

Morata has done his stock absolutely no harm since his return to the Spanish capital with a rather impressive goal record making him an even more attractive option than he was when he returned last summer. Initially Los Blancos intended to exercise their option to buy him back from Juventus and then sell him on quickly for a profit. Chelsea were seen as the obvious target for such a deal yet Antonio Conte chose to stick with Diego Costa. 20 goals in all competitions later and the Spanish striker is set to net Real Madrid an even bigger profit with Jose Mourinho’s search for a goalscorer beginning with the 24-year-old despite the fact AC Milan have made much of the early moves.

Possible Destinations: Manchester United, AC Milan, Chelsea

Cost: 60 million euros

Riyad Mahrez:

12 months is a long time in football and over the course of this period the Algerian playmaker has gone from being the PFA Player of the Year to an individual struggling with a team fighting against relegation. Mahrez has made clear his intention to leave Leicester City but after a disappointing season from the 26-year-old, the market for him is much smaller than it was last summer. With that being said several teams remain interested including Arsenal whilst AS Monaco feel he is the perfect choice to replace the outgoing Bernardo Silva. Leicester are demanding a fee close to 50 million euros but it is increasingly unlikely they will receive it.

Possible Destinations: Arsenal, Monaco, Tottenham Hotspur

Cost: 40 million euros

Philippe Coutinho:

Liverpool’s return to the Champions League means the club are desperate not to sell their best players however Barcelona’s public transfer campaigns are rarely unsuccessful and there is an increasing feeling that Los Cules want the Brazilian forward to be the marquee signing to help usher in the Ernesto Valverde era. Liverpool’s strong attempts to sign Mohamed Salah somewhat increase the suspicion that Coutinho could be about to leave. The 24-year-old has made no secret of his wish to join the Blaugrana as he publicised his admiration for them, “Barcelona are one of the best teams in the world but so far nobody has made an offer for me,” he explained. A contract extension signed in January however made prove prohibitive for the Catalan giants.

Possible Destinations: Barcelona

Cost: 80-100 million euros

Diego Costa:

Costa’s relationship with Chelsea and Antonio Conte has been a frosty one for the majority of the 2016/17 season with the fans actually holding the Spaniard in much higher esteem. Despite these issues and the reports of a move to China emerging in January, a 20 goal haul in the Premier League propelled Chelsea to the title and kept the Spaniard’s stock incredibly high as one of the continent’s most consistent goalscorers. The Blues are determined to bring Romelu Lukaku back to the club and to fund this operation there was a sense that Costa would be allowed to return to Atletico Madrid. Whilst the Court of Arbitration for Sport’s decision on Los Colchoneros’ transfer ban has made this difficult it isn’t beyond the realms of possibility that he is signed and then registered in January, although this is recognised as being very unlikely. A short-term move to China may also be considered.

Possible Destinations: Atletico Madrid, Tianjin Quanjian

Cost: 100-130 million euros

James Rodriguez:

After arriving in Madrid as the star of the 2014 World Cup, Rodriguez Los Blancos career will end with the ignominy of being left out of Real Madrid’s matchday squad for the Champions League final against Juventus. The Colombian had a fantastic first season in the Spanish capital but in truth has never seen eye to eye with Zinedine Zidane or indeed fit into the Frenchman’s system comfortably. Rodriguez however remains a household name with marketability and at 25 years old will command a significant fee from either Manchester United or Inter who are both interested in him albeit the Italian team seems slightly more so.

Possible Destinations: Inter, Chelsea, Manchester United

Cost: 60-70 Million euros

Antoine Griezmann:

A deal to take Griezmann to Manchester United this summer was thought to be nothing more than a mere formality following their qualification for next season’s Champions League. However the decision to uphold Atletico’s transfer ban left the Frenchman with a moral quandary and he in fact decided to remain with the club citing that a move away with Los Rojiblancos unable to replace would have been a ‘dirty move’. Griezmann will stay in Madrid for the moment although Jose Mourinho will look to sign him again in the future as he has every single summer since 2015. A possible contract extension with an increase in salary could see his buy-out clause raised which makes putting a price on this move quite a difficult task.

Possible Destinations: Manchester United

Cost: 100-120 million euros
