Lagos West Senator, Solomon Olamilekan Adeola, popularly known as Yayi, has called on the Federal Government to create state police.

Adeola said this could be an end to what he called “self-help” by citizens through the creation of varieties of ‘Amotekuns’ by other zones.

Adeola, who is the Chairman, Senate Committee on Finance, said yesterday, that the establishment of state police is the one way to “stop” Amotekun.

The All Progressives Congress (APC) lawmaker, in a statement by his Media Aide, Kayode Odunaro, said with the rising cases of kidnapping and killings in Nigeria, the creation of state police becomes very expedient, asking the federal government to amend the constitution so as to include state police.

Adeola called for restructuring saying it was in the agenda of the APC.

Amotekun, known as the Western Nigeria Security Network, was set by governors of the Yoruba race to fight insecurity.

It was launched on Thursday, January 9 in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.
