Salah Interrupts His Ramadhan For The Champions League Final

Despite initial suggestions that Mohamed Salah would continue to fast for Ramadhan, in order to be in his best condition on Saturday for the Champions League final, the Egyptian forward has suspended his fast for three days.

He had been complying since May 16, but has stopped according to Ruben Pons, the Spanish physiotherapist who treats the Liverpool star.

“As far as I know in Marbella, he practiced Ramadan, but a plan was established for these important days,” he said on the El Transistor programme on radio station Onda Cero.

“On Thursday, Friday and the day of the match he will suspend his fasting, so it will not affect him.

“After the final he will take it up again.”

Salah is not the first Muslim elite sportsman to do so, and, in fact, it’s usual practice.

However, his decision does contradict what was published in Egypt, where it was assumed that Salah would continue fasting.

Moreover, according to the Egyptian newspaper Al Masry al Youm, the forward’s family will sacrifice three calves before the final, as a tradition to bless Salah for a vital match.
