Real Valladolid Make Leganes Pay For Early Mishap As LaLiga Restart

Spread the love

Leganes had a terrible start as they returned from the coronavirus pause, with centre-back Chidozie Awaziem and goalkeeper Ivan Cuellar messing up a simple long ball forward and allowing Enes Unal to put Real Valladolid into a second minute lead.

The visitors went on to win 2-1, with Ruben Alcaraz adding another at the beginning of the second half, before an Oscar Rodriguez penalty that gave Leganes nothing more than some late hope.

It was the calamitous start that really hurt Leganes, with Awaziem heading a ball towards his own goal past his No.1 and with Unal winning the three-man footrace that followed.

Leganes couldn’t find much of a response, offering little in attack besides some moments of Oscar brilliance.

At the beginning of the second half, some more unconvincing Leganes defending ended with Alcaraz smashing the ball into the net and Real Valladolid were cruising.

Only a late 84th minute penalty, that Oscar converted, gave Leganes any hope.

They had another couple of penalty calls after that, but never really looked like equalising from open play.

This loss leaves them well and truly inside the relegation zone, while Real Valladolid take a step closer to safety.
