Police Storm Anambra Carjackers’ Den, Recover Vehicles, Guns

The Special Anti-Robbery Squad of the Anambra State Police Command, on Sunday, stormed a carjackers’ den in the state and arrested three suspects.
It also recovered a bus and a Sport Utility Vehicle as well as arms and ammunition from the suspects.
A Toyota Highlander SUV, it was gathered, was snatched from one Christopher Oraukwu at gunpoint on the Ekwulobia Road in the Aguata Local Government Area of the state.
The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Haruna Mohammed, confirmed the incident to our correspondent and said the suspects were arrested at their hideouts in the Achalla/Nkpor area of the state.
He said the suspects had confessed to the crime and would be charged as soon as investigation into their activities was concluded.
Mohammed added, “It will be recalled that a Toyota Highlander SUV with number plate APP 49 FM and other valuables belonging to one Christopher Oraukwu, 54, were snatched at gunpoint on the Ekwulobia Road, Aguata.
“Following the report, police operatives attached to the command’s Special Anti-Robbery Squad swung into action and arrested the suspects.”
He gave the names of the suspects as Chidi Ugoji, 31, from Ukpo, Dunukofia Local Government Area of the state; Okoye Onyebuchi, 34, of Umunachi in the same local government area; and Onwe Chigozie, 22, from Ikwo, Ebonyi State.
The PPRO stated, “The suspects were arrested at their hideout in the Achalla/ Nkpor area and have voluntarily confessed to the crime.

“Exhibits recovered from them include one pump action gun, one cut-to-size double-barrelled gun, four life cartridges, one Mitsubishi L300 bus used by the syndicate for robbery operations and the Toyota Highlander SUV.”
