NASFAT Chief Missioner Attends United Nations Special Session

The Chief Missioner of Nasrul Lahi l Fatih Society, NASFAT, Imam Morufu Onike Abdul-Azeez is among leading religious and community leaders to be part of the panel discussion at the forthcoming United Nations Commission on the 62nd session of the Status of Women taking place at United Nations Headquarters New York.

 

 

The event being coordinated by the United Nations (UN) was facilitated for by the Carter Center.

 

The panel session involving NASFAT’s Chief Missioner is to showcase how community-led development programme of the Carter Center throughout West African are successfully engaging the whole community in improving the well-being and human rights for women and girls.

 

NASFAT has been in partnership with the Carter Center, a US based NGO chaired by a former American President, President Jimmy Carter.

 

Over the past three years, the focus of relationship has been mobilization of faith and changing of social norms for women and girls through a human rights approach strengthened by the full participation of religious and traditional leaders.

 

The Priority theme of the event is “Challenges and opportunities in achieving gender equality and the empowerment of rural women and girl” while the Review theme is “Participation in and access of women to the media, information and communications technologies and their impact on and use as an instrument for the advancement and empowerment of women”

 

Also particiapating in the event is Alhaja Sadiat Onike-Azeez, wife of the Chief Missioner.

 

The international event commences on the 12th of March through 23rd of March 2018 but the session involving the duo of NASFAT’s Chief Missioner and his amiable wife is on the 16th of March 2018.
