In a merciless operation, Nigerian troops have neutralized Boko Haram gunmen who attempted to attack Jiddari Polo community in Maiduguri, the Borno State capital.

Announcing the elimination of armed terrorists, the Army Spokesperson, Brigadier Sani Kukasheka Usman said: “there was an attempt by a few suspected Boko Haram to attack Jiddari Polo and all have been neutralized. Situation cool and calm.”

Residents of the area who had planned to flee their homes were reassured with rapid response of Nigerian troops. There is heavy security presence as the residents of the community were asked not to panic as the situation is under control.

Meanwhile, the Nigerian Army wishes to draw the attention of the public on activities of some unscrupulous elements who extort and maltreat innocent Nigerians disguised as soldiers.

This caution become necessary with the arrest of 2 impostors by troops of 3 Battalion Nigerian Army operating in parts of Delta State earlier today.

The two suspects, Emejo Benedict and Onwusuluke Kelechi, were arrested dressed in military camouflage uniform while extorting money from commercial tricycle (KEKE NAPEP) drivers and molesting their fellow civilians along Nnebisi Road, Asaba, Oshimili South Local Government Area of Delta State.

The suspects have since been handed over to Nigerian Police in Asaba. It is necessary to enjoin the general public to be more vigilant and security conscious because of the activities of these impostors.

The general public are therefore requested to report anyone claiming to be a soldier outside a designated military locations.

We would like to again call the public to please take advantage of the newly established Nigerian Army Information and Call Centre to report any such issue and other security concern by calling the short code 193 using any of the telecommunication service providers in Nigeria or through email at [email protected].
