…Resigns as YDP Deputy National Chairman

A renowned activist and human rights fighter, Mallam Yerima Usman Shettima appears to have interest in the National Assembly as checks revealed that the Kaduna born Youth Leader has relocated back home from Lagos for the project.

Shettima, who is the current National President of the Arewa Youth Consultative Forum (AYCF), is suspected to be nursing ambition to contest a seat in the House of Representatives in Abuja to represent the people of Kaduna North Federal Constituency on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

The courageous social critic and fearless political commentator, according to a reliable source, has commenced serious consultations across board with a view to seeking support and advice of the community leaders, party leadership, youth and professional organisations as well as from his Comrades in democratic activism.

The youthful guy in his mid-40s, who is an alumnus of the Lagos State University (LASU), is said to have confided in a close friend that he has been nursing aspiration to serve his good people at the Legislative Chambers in Abuja.

According to a credible source who pleaded anonymity, told our reporter that, “Yerimma’s quest for election into the National Assembly is genuinely borne out of selfless love for service to humanity,” saying, “for a very long time in the time past, the energetic pro-democracy crusader has been fighting against all forms of oppression, injustice, bad governance and corruption.”

If the highly connected activist succeeds in his bid to be at the National Assembly, he will replace the current occupier of the seat, Honourable Ismaila Sulaiman, who may also likely want to seek re-election.

Recent developments appear to have confirmed Yerima’s move to dump his political party, the Young Democratic Party (YDP), of which he was the Deputy National Chairman.

Our correspondent has stumbled on a letter of resignation personally signed by the AYCF boss copies of which were sent to the leadership of the YDP.

In the resignation letter, Yerima stated that his intention to quit the YDP is “just to devote my time to deep reflection and taking a very close look at my participation in politics and make some necessary adjustments.”

It was further gathered that, preparation is on top gear from Yerima’s camp to move to the PDP with a view to realising his electoral ambition.

It was learnt on good authority that the vocal activist turned politician has held series of meetings with leaders of the PDP like the National Chairman, Prince Uche Secondu, Senator Umaru Ibrahim Tsauri, National Secretary, and Hon. Abdullahi H. MaiBasira, National Financial Secretary among others.

All attempts to get to Yerima for his comment on the issue proved abortive as his telephone lines were always busy while all messages sent to his phones were not answered.
