Juve 2-2 Spurs: Eriksen Free-kick Gives Tottenham Second Leg Advantage

Gonzalo Higuain was both the hero and villain of the piece for Juventus on Tuesday night as the Italians let a two-goal lead slip at home to Tottenham Hotspur in the Champions League last-16.

It took just over 90 seconds for the Argentine to excellently control a quick free-kick and volley past Hugo Lloris in the Spurs goal with the Frenchman unable to keep out Higuain’s penalty seven minutes later.

There was little option but for the visitors to push up force a way back into the game and Dele Alli starred throughout, playing in Harry Kane to round the goalkeeper and provide some hope with almost an hour left to play.

However the fear set in once again in first half stoppage time once Serge Aurier committed a silly foul to allow Higuain a chance at a hat-trick from the spot, although this time his shot cannoned off the bar.

Spurs punished Juve’s drop-off after the break with Alli winning a foul just outside the D, from which Christian Eriksen stepped up to drill a low free-kick effort past Gianluigi Buffon and set the tie up nicely, 2-2 on aggregate with the return at Wembley Stadium on March 7.
