Rangers shocked Villarreal on Thursday evening by holding the LaLiga Santander side to a 2-2 draw, one which Steven Gerrard was proud of.

The former Liverpool midfielder believes his players can take confidence from the result and can use it as motivation going forward.

“To come and perform as we did, certainly in the second half, the players have to take confidence and belief from that,” he told Rangers‘ official media after the match.

“We are a good team when we show it, when we believe and when we go for the jugular.

“We can create chances against anyone.”

He was especially pleased with the display in the second 45 minutes.

“I asked [the players] at half time to show a little bit more belief and confidence in the final third,” he said.

“The second half performance was very strong and there were some big performances out there again for us.

“The players deserve a lot of credit again.”

Next up for Rangers in the Europa League group is a home match against Rapid Wien.
