Gameiro, Neto Lead Valencia To Their First Win Of The Season

It took until the seventh round of the new LaLiga Santander season, but Valencia have their first win of the season.

A first half goal from Kevin Gameiro was enough for the visitors as they took on Real Sociedad at Anoeta.

The striker came into this match still seeking his first goal for his new club and he thought he had it in the 26th minute when he put the ball in past former Atletico Madrid teammate Miguel Angel Moya, who was starting in place of Geronimo Rulli, but the strike was correctly ruled out for offside.

Just 10 minutes later, though, the Frenchman did score his first goal for Los Che, getting on the end of an excellent cross from Denis Cheryshev.

It had been a poor opening half hour for La Real, but they could have went in level at the break, only for Neto to produce a superb two-fisted save from an Aritz Elustondo header at a 42nd minute corner.

Neto was the hero once again in the second half, when Real Sociedad won a 67th minute penalty.

Willian Jose stepped up, but the Brazilian goalkeeper saved from his countryman to keep Valencia ahead.

Unlike in midweek when they hosted and drew with Celta VigoValencia were able to nurse their lead all the way to full-time, earning them their first three-point haul of the season.
