Fellaini Snatches Manchester United A Win Off Much-rotated Arsenal

Arsene Wenger’s trips to Old Trafford have often been memorable during his long career at Arsenal and he left the home of Manchester United without a point on Sunday afternoon.

All those years ago, the Frenchman’s first trip to the Lancashire giants ended in a 2-1 defeat and Marouane Fellaini inflicted the same scoreline on the Gunners with a late header on his last visit as Gunners boss.

Paul Pogba had set United on their way with a calm finish in the first half but Arsenal, made up largely of young and fringe players ahead of their Europa League semi-final at Atletico Madrid, struck 20 minutes from time through Henrikh Mkhitaryan.

Giving David De Gea no chance with an accurate effort, the Armenian refused to celebrate and the away team looked good value for a point.

On the cusp of injury time, Fellaini hit the post with a header that was deflected in by Marcus Rashford, a goal rightly ruled out for offside before the Belgian found the net himself with seconds left.

A sixth defeat on the road in a row, the North London club must now hope for a reprieve in Spain on Thursday with the knowledge that Wenger is destined to leave with a sixth-placed league finish at best.
