The UEFA executive committee have approved the use of VAR in the Champions League from the 2019/20 season onwards.

The directors of European football’s governing body met on Thursday morning and made the decision to start using the technology in next season’s Champions League, including in the qualifying rounds.

“We’re confident that introducing VAR in August 2019 will give us enough time to put in place a robust system and to train officials to ensure an efficient and successful implementation of VAR in the Champions League,” UEFA president Aleksander Ceferin said.

VAR will also be used at the 2019 UEFA Super Cup, while UEFA plan to start using it in the Europa League from 2020/21, as well as at Euro 2020 and in the finals of the 2021 UEFA Nations League.
