Fifteen people have been killed after two trains collided.

Another 40 were injured following the incident in Egypt.

The Health Ministry said rescue workers and 30 ambulances are working at the scene.

According to reports, a passenger tran collided with a freight train in Beheira province in the North of Cairo.

Shocking pictures show the devastating aftermath, as people stand and stare at the wreckage.

A spokesperson for the minister of health said victims were taken to local hospitals.

Eyewitnesses say two passenger carriages separated and crashed into the cargo train.

The incident happened outside a train station in Kom Hamada.

The crash comes months after 41 people died in a train collision near the coastal city of Alexandria last August.

That was the deadliest train accident in Egypt since a November 2013 collision between a train and a bus killed 27 people south of Cairo.

In 2002, 373 people died when a fire ripped through a crowded train, also south of the capital.
