Australian Open: Federer, Kerber Through To The Last 8

Kerber bt Hsieh : 4-6 7-5 6-2

Angelique Kerber ended Taiwanese Hsieh Su-wei’s dream run in the Australian open with a hard-fought victory, Hsieh took the first set with a break in the final service game.

A frustrated Kerber who struggled to hit winners past her tenacious opponent, dragged herself back into the match by taking the 2nd set 7-5.

The German then raised her game in the decider and clinched the set 6-2.

Keys bt Garcia 6-3 6-2
American Madison Keys breezed past France’s Caroline Garcia in straight sets(6-3 6-2).

The 22-year-old is in sparkling form and is yet to drop a set in this tournament. She faces Kerber in the next round.

Berdych bt Fognini 6-1 6-4 6-4
Thomas Berdych made his way to his 7th Australian Open Quarter-Final with a dominant win over Italian Fabio Fognini.

His opponent was hindered by a foot injury in the opening set but did manage to Berdych’s serve in the second and third sets.

However, the big Czech international prevailed and is poised to take on Swiss master Federer in the next round.

Federer bt Fucsovics 6-4 7-6 6-2
Roger Federer overcame his toughest challenge thus far at Melbourne to enter the quarter-finals.

His match against Hungarian Marton Fucsovics was a lot harder than the scorecard suggested.

Fucsovics almost won the tie-break in the 2nd set before the defending champion wrested back control and outclassed his rookie opponent.

Federer broke twice early in the 3rd and closed out the win.
