Aubameyang Missed Late Penalty As Arsenal Settle For Derby Draw

Arsenal were forced to settle for a 1-1 draw at Wembley Stadium in the north London derby against Tottenham Hotspur, but it easily could have been more if Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang had not missed an injury-time penalty.

A first half goal from Juventus-bound Aaron Ramsey had the visitors in front at the break in a nervy affair. He raced through in an incisive Arsenal counter-attack, following a massive error by Davinson Sanchez, and rounded Hugo Lloristo score.

Two controversial penalties then decided the outcome of proceedings, with both coming in the closing stages.

Spurs were awarded one following a slight shove on Harry Kane in the box after a free-kick and the Tottenham captain dusted himself down to tuck away the penalty.

If that award was harsh, then the one the Gunners received in injury-time was worse as Aubameyang fell to ground in the area, following minimal contact from Sanchez. However, the former Dortmund man’s spot kick was weak, allowing Lloris to make a comfortable save and secure a draw.

The drama wasn’t finished there, though, as substitute Lucas Torreira was shown a straight red card in the final moments for a high tackle on Danny Rose.
