Arsenal Swatted Aside As Guardiola Wins His First Trophy In England

Manchester City have won the English League Cup for the third time in five seasons, with Sergio Aguero, Vincent Kompany and David Silva scoring in a 3-0 victory over Arsenal.

The win sees Pep Guardiola lift his first trophy since moving to England, while it could yet be followed by success in Europe and surely by the 2017/18 Premier League title.

The match started off in even fashion, but a long ball from goalkeeper Claudio Bravo in the 18th minute found Aguero, who was poorly marked by Shkodran Mustafi.

Once through on goal, the Argentine striker chipped the ball over David Ospina and City never looked back from there.

The Sky Blues were perhaps a little fortunate to still have 11 men at the break after Fernandinho risked a second booking, but he picked up an injury early into the second half and was replaced by Bernardo Silva.

Then, in the 58th minute, Kompany scored City’s second from a corner which he himself had forced.

By the 65th minute it was three as yet another of the City old guard etched his name onto the scoresheet, this time David Silva finishing a nice pass from Danilo.

The afternoon could hardly have gone better for Guardiola and his team, who already have something to show for what is looking like a special season.
