AChampions League star was born at the Stadio Olimpico on Tuesday evening as Nicolo Zaniolo carried his Serie A form onto Europe’s biggest stage to inspire Roma to a 2-1 win over Porto.

The young Italian has been enjoying himself domestically for the Lupi this season and he netted twice as Eusebio Di Francesco‘s side gained an important first leg win over the Portuguese giants.

Zaniolo put the hosts ahead on 70 minutes, finishing well across Iker Casillaswhile under pressure, and he made it two just six minutes later as he pounced on a rebound after Edin Dzeko hit the post from 25 yards.

Porto did leave with a crucial away goal courtesy of Adrian Lopez, but the night belonged to Zaniolo and the Giallorossi.

Not everything went as Roma would have liked though and more than conceding an away goal, their supporters’ feud with Aleksandar Kolarov continued as the Curva Sud displayed a banner which read: “B*****d Kolarov”.
