After Cristiano Ronaldo could only manage a double against Sampdoria, Lionel Messi ends the year with most goals scored in 2018; the Argentinian managed 51 compared to the Portuguese’s 49.
Messi has exceeded 50 goals in eight of the last nine years, and only fell below 50 goals in 2013, when he scored 45 in 47 games.
Cristiano had always scored more than 50 since 2011, reaching 69 in 2013.
With only one less, that streak is finally broken.
The absolute record is still held by Messi, who scored a whopping 91 goals in 2012.
Fight for the Golden Boot
Cristiano‘s two goals leave the Portuguese as the top scorer in Serie A with 14 goals, one less than in LaLiga Santander where Messi is also the Pichichi.
The fight for the Golden Boot continues.
